India is a member of the International Hydrographic Organisation (IHO) since 1955.  The Naval Hydrographic Department is continuously represented in the various IHO committees like World-wide Electronic Navigational Chart Database (WEND), FIG/IHO/ICA International Advisory Board for Standards of Competence for Hydrographic Surveyors and Nautical Cartographers, Committee on Hydrographic Requirements and Information Systems (CHRIS), Capacity Building Committee (CBC), IHO Strategic Plan Working Group (ISPWG), Advisory Board on the Law of the Sea (ABLOS), General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans - Sub-Committee on Undersea Feature Names ( GEB CO-SCUFN), Hydrographic Committee on Antarctica (HCA),  and Commission on Promulgation of Radio Navigational Warnings (CPRNW).
